  • What do you guys do in those meetings?

  • @Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex - It depends on who shows up.
Second Life is a virtual world. When you join you pick an avatar (a persona) and enter. On my website I have advise for getting started. There is a learning curve and it takes a bit of patience to learn to walk etc. There are a couple of excellent places that teach the beginning info. I share links on my site to these: http://yeshivabethhashem.org/SecondLife

We have a kind of chapel in a woodsy setting. There are four logs around a camp fire where we sit. This morning there were five of us. We talked about the changes we've made to our Second Life plans, a new group we set up etc. Then one of the participates asked about the Jewish teaching of gilgul neshamot. I spoke for about a half an hour explaining the concept, then we discussed it. Was very nice. This evening there were four of us. They had not been with us before so we explained who we are and what we believe a bit. Then we discussed basically the role of the people of God to be a blessing to the world. I was pleased to learn that one of the guest is a volunteer for one of the biggest charity outfits in Second Life, they assist the disabled in various ways.

Essentially this is how it goes. As the hour is winding down I usually ask for topics of interest for the next session.

We are going to add a Shabbat gathering, but I'm not sure about the time yet. We will probably discuss that week's parsha (Torah reading) and related topics.

Typically I like to keep these meetings friendly and fairly light. Anyone who wishes to speak with me is also invited most anytime for a friendly conversation, Bible discussion etc. The benefit, a benefit, to Second Life is that we can be together in real time for a conversation, either in chat or voice. It is an awesome way to connect with people. We (my wife and I) are still fairly new to Second Life but we are learning fast. For more information and tips on getting started visit my website: http://yeshivabethhashem.org/SecondLife. If I can be of any assistance I'm happy to do what I can.

    Shalom
